We Love The Hype Machine, but…
By Justine-Marie
it definitely generates not just hype, but rumors, too! For everyone who follows The Hype Machine like we do, you may have seen a “new track from the Postal Service” listed as one of the hot new songs. This is definitey a hoax! Sarah Moody of SubPop Records (The Postal Service’s record label) says,
Oh lordy, don’t believe one word of that thing. Not only is that track most assuredly not the Postal Service, but we don’t even have a release date set for that album yet! So someone is pulling that blogger’s e-leg, though I’m not sure who.. either way it’s pretty good publicity for whoever the imitation band is, I guess. I love how much fact checking went into that piece before he posted that “exclusive”.. ;)
Sorry, guys, we’ll just have to wait!
Update: So I followed the track to the IRC channel where it was first leaked, and they maintain its authenticity. They weren’t very nice to me (they didn’t like my doubts and eventually banned me from their channel with this message: “the thing is, i don’t need to claim anything. maybe this can help your claim, because it’s quite apparent no one here cares about your views, or thoughts. or shameless plugging to promote your garbage website. cheers.”), but they did say that more material will be posted later today that actually has Ben Gibbard’s voice. I’ll check back later, but until then I believe Ms. Moody.
Update 2: C’mon now, Grow Up! Subscribing me to spam lists, thats so mature. Okay, I doubt you. You had to expect it, didn’t you? If your so certain about this demo, how about you just let your release of these mysterious tracks prove me the idiot? Until then, you’re not proving anything.
Readers, you can follow this supposed release at mp3 blog Good Weather For Airstrikes.
Update 3: The guy at Good Weather for Airstrikes is acually really nice, and also says that also the admins of the IRC channel that leaked the tracks to him temporarily banned the guy who spammed me. They may have thrown me out of their chatroom, but they didn’t intend to be malicious to me, I guess…
Update 4: This track is most likely from the band The Northern Two. Good Weather for Airstrikes has contacted them… and so have I…
Okay, this is NOT the Northern Two (they have responded to my email), but The Northern Two are pretty good anyway. I give up! (haha. haha. give up…) Someone email me if they find out who this track actually is. It’s just NOT the Postal Service.
