Announcement for December

Posted on December 26th, 2005 by Various Writers in Announcements

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, etc etc everyone!! Here’s what’s on the radar:

Vera is having their end of the year and end of their current venue bash on January 31st. The Blue Scholars are playing and it’s definitely going to be worth attending for memories, music, and other such things.

Also, Soundoff! has released this years competitors. We’ve heard of several of these underage acts (remember John van Deusen or Get Dressed? Yeah, you heard about them here first!) and are quite excited to see this years competition. Don’t just watch for the results: go buy tickets to see the February concert performances: it’s cheap and definitely worth it....

River City Rebels 12/12 @ El Corazon

Posted on December 18th, 2005 by Alisa in Reviews

That’s right the River City fucking Rebels! Monday night my friends Sean, Travis and I ventured to the outskirts of Seattle to experience the Rebels. An interesting drive led to an interesting and exciting night, as I had an interview lined up with the Rebels ahead of time so I was very excited about that. I have been a fan of the Rebels since they lived on the east coast, but now they live in Seattle and are painting the town red and taking no prisoners. Though the small turnout for the show was not what my friends and I had expected, we still had a blast. Waxwing 12/16 @ The Vera

For those who frequent small shows, a performance where most or all of the bands seem to know eachother, as well as much of the audience, is a common experience- but at a sold-out show with a well-known cast this sort of situation is mostly unseen. Yet such seemed to be the case last night, when the Vera project was sold out for the first of the last two shows ever for Seattle’s Waxwing. Performing with Slender Means and Neon Blonde, friends and relatives of Waxwing members, and with guests enough to drive the ticket takers mad, Waxwing was giving their final show among those important to them - including the many many fans who filled up the venue.

First up was Neon Blonde, a band I’ve been listening to of late because it features Mark Gajadhar and Johnny Whitney of The Blood Brothers. Johnny’s vocals provide the kick for me - his high pitched screams are very unique...

Math and Physics Club - Weekends Away [mp3, 2.3MB]
Math and Physics Club are already one of my local favorites: they fit perfectly into my summer vacation of mellow days and sunshine. Now they’re on my playlist to remind me summer’s coming back. Weekends Away expresses this feeling perfectly, sweet and charming, bringing memories of roadtrips and little adventures long past. Math and Physics Club have released two EP’s, “Movie...
