Announcement for October

Posted on October 21st, 2005 by Various Writers in Announcements

Welcome to October, folks. Proud to say that the rest of us are all settled into collegiate life, and having way too much fun studying alot. Everyone’s back in the school vibe, but still totally on board with the site. We’re having our second all-staff meeting this month, and hope to come up with some awesome exciting stuff for next month.

The first thing we need everyone to take note of from this month’s news is our MAILING LIST. See it over there on the right? Zach finished it. Enter your email address to get the monthly announcement and whatever else we feel you absolutely cannot live without (probably not more than 2 or 3 emails total a month, probably only one) delivered right to your inbox. We won’t sell your address, send you spams, or flood your inbox. Promise.

Next is that we have some very nice MySpace buttons made by the fabulous Danielle for those of you wishing to show off your musical taste, or at least direct your...

Get Dressed - Time Calls Bluffs

Posted on October 18th, 2005 by Justine-Marie in Samplers

Time to share another song that not nearly enough people have heard! This local band is called Get Dressed, they’re friends of a friend of mine (named Mike Skinner. Too bad it’s not the Mike Skinner), and the song off their 5 track EP (called Five Year Plan) that they’d like me to share is called “Time Calls Bluffs.”

Get Dressed - Time Calls Bluffs [mp3, 3.4MB]

My favorite off the EP I have is “Headlights.” Or maybe “On the Trees.” Whatever, they recently ran 50 copies of a CD with Headlights, Time Calls Bluffs, and two other tracks on it, and they’re working on new stuff. Plus their website has Headlights and two other tracks for download. There’s plenty to go around.

Getting on to the band, Get Dressed are a 4-piece underage...

Interview 9/5 with Idiot Pilot

Posted on October 12th, 2005 by Alisa in Interviews

(c) Morgan Keuler, of course! This is the Idiot Pilot interview part two, with both men… It is a rarity these days that you find well spoken people, but that is not the case with Idiot Pilot. Michael Harris and Daniel Anderson have to be two of the most well spoken individuals I have ever had the privilege to talk to. They know exactly what they want to say and how to say it. Yeah, the interview took a while, but through all of us moving to college, a computer crash, and general chaos, it’s here!

Alisa: How did you spend your time off?

Michael: I’ve been, lets see, playing a lot of video games. Tiger Woods PGA, I’ve gone bowling a few times but not as much...

The Torn ACL’s 10/8 @ Some House Show

Posted on October 12th, 2005 by Alisa in Reviews

If you don’t like music that all sounds the same, then this is a band that you should really check out. Don’t get me started on the name, cause I don’t wanna be mean; but you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. This is one of the most promising bands I have seen in a long time for a number of reasons. What separates this band from other struggling artists is their sound. You can’t compare them to any other band that you have heard, which is a rarity nowadays. They have established themselves as individuals in a time when the music scene seems to be producing nothing but followers.

Each band member brings something interesting to the table. Lead singer and guitarist, Bill, brings his voice as well as strong riffs that go from soft and slow to fast and catchy. They sound like nothing you have heard before and this can be attributed to the fact that Bill’s guitar is not a generic Gibson or Fender, it is something much more than...

Visqueen 10/7 @ The Vera Project

Posted on October 11th, 2005 by Justine-Marie in Reviews

Who doesn’t adore the Vera project? Not only did I finally see what turned out to be a great band, see a bunch of friends, do not one but TWO interviews (Mon Frere and Rachel of Visqueen, coming soon), but… okay actually that’s it. And that’s quite enough to be a very fun show.

First up were the Lonely H, a very very underage band from the peninsula side of the state, but despite those two silly facts, they played a gorgeous set of pop rock tunes that proved their worth. My very favorite bit was their keyboard, which wasn’t plinkey and poppy but of a more classic style that still sounded great (I am curious how big of a chord he can play, he played octaves without stretching… /end piano-nerd-talk). Anyways, they have a couple of tracks up on their MySpace which are just delightful. They play the Paradox on November 5, and I’m hoping to be there!

Second...
